Godiva are pleased to announce their new Key Stage 3 Sports Captains for 2016-2017. After a successful start to the year with the House Cross Country, the Godiva Sports Captains are ready to take on their role and help the house earn as many HAPS through sporting events.
I am pleased to announce that Marianne L and Harry D both from 7GV2 are the new year 7 Godiva Sports Captains. They are both extremely enthusiastic and ready to help the new year 7’s settle down into Godiva’s winning ways.
Poppy L managed to keep her sports captain position for the second year running after leading her successful girls team to victory in all house sport competitions last year. Charlie P has stepped up to the role of sports captain for the boys this year with his bubbly and enthusiastic personality I feel the year 8 boys could have a successful year
A similar pattern has followed with the girls and Lucy W from 9GV6 has kept her position as sports captain this year. I was particularly impressed with the start to the year from the year 9 girls, we had a big turn out for house cross country with all of you who ran performing extremely well and I hope this continues throughout the year. Freddie H has taken on the role of leading the boys, who are an extremely strong sporting team. The year 8 boys last year didn’t lose any points throughout the year in sporting events (House Sport, Cross Country, Swimming gala and Sports day).
I am very pleased with the team and I look forward to the year ahead,
Miss Warman, Head of Godiva
Southam V Polesworth
After the long journey to Polsworth the game began with both teams evenly matched. It took ten minutes to break the deadlock with Fin Morgan scoring a good goal from the edge of the box. After a lot of pressure and a few defensive mistakes they got one back with a nice strike from the corner of the box. Southam retook the lead with a good corner from James Lythe and very nice header from Alex Gidney. Southam were now 2-1 up however our defensive mistakes kept on coming. We couldn’t deal with their pressure as they pulled one back just before half time. The second half started with Southam the livelier team. We won a free kick. James Lythe put a good cross to the back post. Ruben Cooper applied the pressure as they scored an own goal. 3-2 Southam. Tristran Marriott picked it up in the middle of the park and played a delightful ball the centre Eric Stanley ran on to it. He took it round a defender before finishing in the bottom right corner. Southam now looking the better team with a strong 4-2 lead. After we scored they applied a bit of pressure but our defence was able to cope relatively easily with it. After their pressure we counter attacked and James Lythe had a shot from the edge of the box and the keeper let it under him. Eric Stanley scored the final goal taking it cooly round the keeper and finishing in the open net.
The final score was Polsworth 2- Southam 6. Based on this performance Southam seem to have a strong team.
