Thursday evening saw the year 10 football team travel to Northampton to play Caroline Chisholm in the ESFA Cup.
Unfortunately Southam started slowly and found themselves a goal down after 3 minutes after a slight defensive mix up. The year 10s struggled to get a foothold in the game and couldn’t quite find the final ball to release the strikers. Will, Jack, Archie and Jack recovered from the early set back and defended well. Henry kept the score to 1-0 with 2 smart saves. Tom threatened down the left wing but Southam didn’t trouble the keeper in the first half.
Southam knew they had to improve in the second half and they did just that! In the same fashion as the first half Southam conceded an early goal in the form of a long range strike. However, the midfield pairing of Kasey and Ruben started to dominate and build attacks through Fin, Tom and Jacob. Tristan started to get on the ball more and linked well with the midfielders. Ben started to play neat interchanges down the left and Southam were unfortunate not to get back into the game after some fine defensive tackles in the box. Southam created their best chance of the afternoon when Ben and Ruben interchanged passes before Tristan beat the defender 3 times before shooting wide.
A 2-0 loss on the night but lots of positives to take from the game, in particular the second half performance. Southam played some very good football which was pleasing to see. Luckily, Southam have chance to bounce back on Monday night when they host Stratford.
