Year 10 Rugby

Southam V Fairfax

Year 10 Lionhearts battle through the Fairfax storm!

The Yr 10 Rugby kicked off the season with a fantastic 26-22 victory against a physical and very competitive Fairfax team. Our forwards dominated at the breakdown, but struggled in the scrum and line-out. However, Tries from Eric S. and Dylan W. (2) put us in charge, all well converted by Rhys B.

The Fairfax team were always dangerous, though, and punished a loose Southam pass from the back of our ruck. 21-7 was how the first half finished, but we had lost 3 big players who received knocks, so had to depend on our bench to carry us through to the end.

Fairfax now had a strengthening breeze behind them, and they piled on the pressure. Despite some valiant defending they crossed 3 times with no reply to take the lead, but crucially missed the conversions, to lead by only 1. As the clock ticked down, another break from the impressive Matt O. gave us the platform for one last assault on the Fairfax line, and when our Man of the Match, Dylan W. got the ball within striking distance for the line, there was no stopping him.

Our warriors still had to endure a nervy last couple of minutes, but throwing their bodies on the line, managed to see them out to secure a very hard fought win.

Massive congratulations to all the team for their tremendous effort and heart today. We still have some areas to work on in training before our next game against AGS on 2nd Oct, and hope to be back to full strength by then. A big thank you as well to Mr Bennett for refereeing today.
