Yesterday A.Bourton, S.Costa, P.Lummis, M.Free and R.Dillon went to Solihull to represent Central Warwickshire for girls football having won their area league in November.
Starting the tournament positively the team beat Etone College 1-0. Into the next match they had tough competition against Tudor Grange Academy where their attack proved difficult and the defence hard to break, leaving the final score 3-1 to Tudor Grange. The next game, Southam needed to win to get into the cup finals and after tough competition ended losing 1-0 after a free kick from the opposition.
Southam then entered the plate where they had 3 opportunities to get into the final round. The first game against Avon Valley saw Southam dominate and the team had more belief that they could win, after pressuring the opposition defence, the team took the lead 1-0. The next match against Henry Newman proved difficult for the team and although the first few minutes were close, Henry Newman took control and the final score finished 3-1. The last match against Blue Coats, needed to finish with a win for Southam to get into the final match. Southam played brilliantly as a team and with P.Lummis making some incredible saves the final score finished 2-0 to Southam!
Southam had made it into the 3rd/4th play off, knowing they had 8 minutes to prove they could do it, the team put out everything to win. R.Dillon made some great defensive tackles as A.Bourton and S.Costa drove the ball forward in attack. M.Free managed to gain the first goal to Southam from a corner kick and S.Costa had a great shot to make the final score 2-0 Southam!
Overall, Southam finished 3rd. A great tournament with some very good opposition. Well done to the whole team and thank you for a great day of football!
