Sub Zero Tournament
Last night the year 8 netball teams took part in their emerging schools tournament in the freezing temperatures.
One of the teams – captained by Alana Ashmore; played in one division of the tournament against Campion, NLS B and Trinity. They played extremely well considering they were new to playing with each other, seeing Nel Michniewska taking on some impressive shots to see them finish in 2nd place in their division to play against Kenilworth in the semi finals. Unfortunately they lost 3-1, putting them in 4th place overall!
The other team, captained by Megan Free; played in another division against NLS A and Kings High. A few of the key players were missing which meant some players had to play out of position throughout the competition. The girls took it in turn to play GK seeing Charis volunteering on more than one occasion to go into the defensive circle. The Southam girls played exceptionally well throughout the group to win both matches convincingly 11-0 and 10-4 to qualify to the semi finals. They too met a Kenilworth team in the semi finals but this time they were victorious 3-1 due to some brilliant defending from Megan Free and Jess Carro.
The final saw Southam take on Kingsley in the dropping temperatures; by the end of the full time the teams were drawn 3-3. The decision was made that a well deserved draw would be the best outcome for both sets of students.
Well done girls, we were extremely impressed with all of your effort.
