Last night the U14 team headed to Avon Valley for the first round of the cup. A new team of girls led by captain Sarah Costa turned up ready to play for the win. Poppy Lummis in goal with the help of Olivia Constable, Letitia Cowley, Emily Lovett, Ana Lovett, Lana Wilson-Shrubb and Niamh Purnell worked hard to keep the ball out of our defensive half, pressuring Avon Valley and giving the ball back to our midfield and attack.
Martha Stanton and Lucy Parsons worked hard in the middle to help the defence and keep the ball with attack. Poppy Hilton and Georgia Eversden applied immense pressure to the Avon Valley attack hassling and tackling and getting the ball to Southam forwards.
Sarah Costa, Abbie Bourton and Ellie Cumberbatch worked extremely well as a unit, pushing against the Avon Valley defence and working the ball well through to score. Megan Free came on to support the attack and apply even more pressure from Southam! Niamh Purnell moved up front and this further allowed Southam to work through the Avon Valley defence.
Abbie Bourton scored an amazing 5 goals, with Sarah Costa and Megan Free scoring 1 each! Final score 7-0 to Southam. A great first round, looking forward to the next match!
Well played to all, Miss MacLachlan & Mr Ginger.
