Year 8 early season storm too much for Coundon court

An early start with the Rugby season saw a strong year 8 team face Coundon Court from Coventry.

From kick off the boys enjoyed much of the ball with superior presentation and rucking, which although a little hesitant by one or two was enough to secure possession to give the ball to devastating runners. Eric Stanley, Jack Barley Morey and Tom Parkin Neal all scored several tries out wide. Spencer Wadsworth in defence and attack, looking to join the line impressed.

Both Austin Turner and Archie Coates showed agility and excellent direction with strike running. Harry Latus’ work at the breakdown was also significant. Eden Wood gets credit for an excellent set up of a try with intelligence at the breakdown, as does Rhys Bennet at scrum half. Rhys linked well with his partner in half back crime to create space for others. When Coundon did have the ball in midfield Dion Tulloch exhibited fine tackling to snuff out attacks. Jon Novy presented the ball well in attack as did Harvey Calder.

Nick Houldey’s power remains impressive as he burst through strong tackles. ( There were some amazing tackles by 5 strong Coundon players – I look forward to seeing our lads defensive capability – show me what you can do!) Will Scott in the scrum was a powerhouse helping to drive them off the ball. Jodie Hollingsworth also took his opportunity to show his scrumaging.

The whole team gets credit for their actions on Wednesday – a 50 – 0 winning score line blew away the cobwebs and there are no individuals to get a man of the match. A deserved all round effort, but far tougher challenges to come.

Areas to develop : kick offs. Linking in midfield and counter rucking. I trust that we will see your tackling up to standard in training against each other. Wednesday night training.

Next game – Away v Fairfax, Sutton Coldfield – Saturday 23rd
