Yr7 Southam ‘A’ 55 Coundon ‘A’ 15
Second Row Will Scott is new to rugby this year, yet he secured the Man of the Match award through excellent strong running and courageous tackling. Tom Parkin-Neal was superb at Prop with a hat trick of tries. His power is becoming a vital cog in both of the Southam defensive and attacking machines.
Powerhouse Nick Houldey bulldozed his way to another three tries, but it is his tackling in the forwards that is most noticeable. Nick tackles low and hard and helps turn defence into attack. Tackle of the Match went to superb centre Dion Tulloch. Coundon’s impressive 14 was clean through, yet a sensational tackle from behind by Dion, saved what had seemed a certain try.
Classy Fly Half Archie Coats also scored a treble. His three tries had everything pace, power and excellent evasive running. Rhys Bennett used his pace well to add another try before Jack Barley-Morey completed the scoring with an excellent switch run away from the dangers of the side line. There were excellent debuts for Austin Turner and Jody Hollingsworth as they regularly powered up the pitch.
It was not all good. The tackling was disappointing early on and at times we were a little greedy on the ball and failed to get the ball wide to the talent of Finley Simms, Ethan Coulter and Charlie Morrison. Coundon’s number 4 deserves special mention for constantly hovering over the ball at rucks to turnover possession.
Next match is a the Alcester Tournament next Tuesday.
